Wallace Engages Community Activists at Wabongo Leadership Council
Meeting
ROCKFORD, Ill. – Encouraging residents to become actively engaged
citizens within the community, state Rep. Litesa Wallace, D-Rockford,
joined a Wabongo Leadership Council meeting Wednesday evening.
"Rockford is fortunate to have a number of local organizations that are
striving to improve the quality of life for every member of the
community," Wallace said. "The Wabongo Leadership Council is one such
organization that is helping to produce current and future leaders for
this region."
The Wabongo Leadership Council works as a volunteer organization
designed to promote education, health and wellness, and community and
economic wellness within Rockford. Activities have included organizing
college tours for Rockford high school students and promoting summer
employment opportunities for youth. Collaboration is emphasized by the
Wabongo Leadership Council, which holds networking meetings on the first
Wednesday of every month at varying local restaurants. For more
information, please visit www.wabongo.org.
"Without the hard work of Wabongo members, there are a lot of Rockford
students who would not have had the opportunity to see the type of
higher education and career opportunities that were available to them,"
Wallace said. "It has been great to see this organization grow and
develop, and I look forward to seeing them play an important role in the
lives of many within this community."
